May 20, 2020 – Day 65 of my quarantine
Along with “Music Mondays” I am now going to have “Well-Read Wednesdays” where I’ll pick books from my home library to share with you.
Since I just received a large haul of Chris Van Allsburg books to add to my collection, I thought he’d be a great one to start with.
Chris Van Allsburg is an American illustrator and writer of children’s books. He has won two Caldecott Medals for U.S. picture book illustration, for Jumanji and The Polar Express, both of which he also wrote; both were later adapted as successful motion pictures.
He is one of my absolute favorite children’s book authors & illustrators. His stories are not just well-illustrated, but very well crafted.
Here he is in a 2-minute interview discussing how ideas come to him. I both agree with and love his opening statement – “Making something is really about chasing an elusive thing that’s in your imagination and not wondering about who’s going to be interested in what you finally catch when you get ahold of it and what the reaction might be.”
Mr. Allsburg’s work inspires me both as an illustrator and an avid lover and collector of children’s books.
You can find out more about him and all his books on his website –
Stay Safe. Stay Smart. Stay Sane. Stay Strong out there.
Until next time …
