Volunteering

unnamed

April 27, 2020 – Day 42 of my quarantine.

Because I have training and a background in crisis and suicide prevention counseling, I sometimes volunteer my time at an online therapy site as an anonymous peer counselor.

I spent a few hours there last night and it really did my heart a lot of good. Helping others is a great way to pull yourself out of depression. By focusing on helping another person you suddenly stop dwelling on your own problems.

Memorable among the people I spoke with, was a wonderful young woman who was a front line, essential worker concerned about her family, and the other was a young man who was working as an IT professional but dreamed of being a 2D animator.

I came away feeling good knowing I gave them both solid advice and some tools & skills to guide them toward success in their problem-solving.

The young aspiring animator also inspired me to think about doing something here on my website. Create an Artists Resource page. A place where young artists and creators can find links to helpful organizations, instructors, low or no-cost tools, and community.

It was a win-win night.

Sending you all my Love and Light -Stay Safe, Stay Smart, and Stay Strong out there.

Until next time …
